Open Heel SplitFin
Kicking Ease & Efficiency
US$249.95
Aerodynamic, Hydrodynamic, Simply Dynamic
Not all SplitFins are the same. Atomic Aquatics SplitFins have a flexible blade designed with Propeller-Fin™ technology so kicks feel very easy and slice through the water with very little drag. Even fish envy SplitFins when divers efficiently swim with more propulsion and less effort. And that means less air consumption.
View Size ChartHOW ATOMIC AQUATICS SPLITFINS WORK
Conventional paddle fins work by pushing water rear-ward. In contrast, the SplitFin slices though the water with two wing shaped surfaces, creating lift and forward propulsion more like a propeller. Any water traveling over the top of the blade is funneled into and out of the opening (split) between the blades. Drag is reduced, effort is reduced and efficiency is increased. Atomic Aquatics SplitFins use Propeller-Fin™ Technology to deliver ultra-high speeds with a small-range rapid flutter kick, much like a boat propeller accelerates it to higher speeds.
UNIQUELY ATOMIC AQUATICS PATENTED EXCLUSIVES
SplitFins are to incredibly easy to kick. In fact, they may “feel” so easy that you wonder if you are moving. Don’t worry, you’re probably going just as fast as you did with your old fins, but with much less effort. Although Split-Fins work with a variety of kicking styles, a smaller-range, more frequent flutter kick delivers maximum per-formance. The flutter kick also keeps your legs within the slipstream of your body profile effectively reducing drag. Less drag means more speed with less effort.

Features
- Power Rails The highly resilient power rails perform as the backbone of the splitfin, storing and releasing energy with every kick. Proprietary and exclusive to Atomic Aquatics, this material will not deteriorate or lose its resiliency.
- Flex Pattens Semi-rigid battens set in the soft elastomeric blade controls the precise wing shape to optimize thrust and reduce drag.
- Split Blade The split blade deflects with the slightest kick to form a pair of wings that slice through the water with reduced drag, propelling you forward.
- High Surface Ratio Blade Large surface area blade improved pivoting, turning and alternate kicking styles.
- Hinge Points Thin, yet strong and highly flexible hinge points between the semi-rigid battens cause the blade to react quickly and efficiently to the slightest kick.
- Anatomically Correct Foot Pocket Contoured to fit your foot without stress points, with semi-open toe for added comfort.
- Power Plate Internal sole plate creates rigid platform beneath the foot for greater power transfer to the blade yet allows soft, comfortable foot pocket.
- EZ-LOK Buckle System Totally new, patented buckle system design features easy, one-handed quick release of the buckle from the fin. Re-attachment is simple and secure. U.S. Patent #6,463,640.

How Atomic Aquatics SplitFins Work
SplitFin Wings “Slice” Through the Water
Traditional paddle fins work by pushing water rearward. As a paddle fin is pushed through the water, much of the water spills over the top surface of the blade and sticks to it, creating drag. Extra kicking effort is required to overcome that drag. The Atomic Aquatics SplitFin slices through the water with two wing-shaped surfaces, creating lift and forward propulsion more like a propeller. Any water traveling over the top of the blade is funneled into and out of the opening (split) between the wings. Drag is reduced, effort is reduced, and efficiency is increased.
Propeller-Fin™ Technology Moves You Faster
Atomic Aquatics SplitFins use Propeller-Fin Technology to deliver ultra-high speeds with a small-range rapid flutter kick. This works in the same manner that increasing the RPM on a boat propeller accelerates a boat to high speeds.
Multi-Composite Plastics And Other Uniquely Atomic Aquatics Features
The Atomic Aquatics signature is our use of exotic materials specifically designed to improve performance. We developed multi-composite plastics for the SplitFins to maximize the efficiency of the kick with less fatigue. Flexible side rails and a stiff foot pocket are combined with stiff battens in the blade to control the flex pattern for optimum performance. Our patented EZ-LOK Buckle System is one of those distinct Atomic Aquatics features that make divers love us even more.
SPLITFIN DESIGN
Even with the slightest kick, the split blade deflects to form a pair of wings that slice through the water with reduced drag, creating lift in the forward direction to propel you ahead. Compared to conventional fins, the Atomic Aquatics SplitFin® swims with less effort, stress and strain resulting in greater sustained speed, power and com-fort. Independent testing has shown that this design can significantly reduce air consumption

I admit up front to being an Atomic fan and tell people about my Atomic products every chance I get, especially my T3! I’ve been using Smoke on the Water splitfins for several years and truly believe that they are a factor in my very good gas usage as I seldom have to work hard with them. In case I need the extra power, it’s always there. Love the stainless heel strap. The only issue I have with them is they are pretty long. That only comes into play on the boat and it’s worth the effort there to get the in water performance they provide. Overall, I love them!

I always talked trash about split fins. Then one day I forgot my fins and borrowed a pair of Atomic spit fins from a buddy. My surface swim at Breakwater was way easier, and my legs weren’t tired even on my swim back in. I’m a believer.

I’ve been using Atomic splits for about two years now. They really do a beautiful job of reducing your effort spent to propulsion delivered. They’re fantastic for days when you’re diving a lot, like on a liveaboard. No strain and no cramping after going all day. Even if you are like me and don’t skip leg day, don’t underestimate what these can do for your energy use and in turn, your air use.

I own the Smoke color Atomic split fin which has the spring straps, and they are very nice fins and I like them a lot. They cost $259 US dollars, but living here in Hawaii I use them a lot so I was OK with that. There is just one problem; the plastic pin that holds the spring into the buckle broke. Now it should be an easy fix to replace the pin, which should cost less than a dollar. Now that would be fair and I would even pay more for it, but Atomic Aquatics will not sell that part. They told me to buy a new set of spring straps which is $70 US dollars or about what you might pay for the average pair of new fins. I have always believed that good service after the sale of any product is a sign of a good company. I am not paying for a new set of fin straps from Atomic. I will buy some Delrin rod and fabricate a new pin to fix my fins. If this does not work I am buying some Scubapro fins.

Love these fins. I film underwater and these help me to maintain a constant speed for smooth shots. They work great for frog kicking too.

I’ve got five pairs of high-end fins — some of the best on the market — Split fins get so much hate online, and let’s be real — it’s 100% the Bandwagon Effect. Most of these so-called ‘experts’ haven’t even tried them. They just repeat each other like sheep to sound cool or ‘hardcore.’
It’s this insecure, macho BS where divers try to act like their opinion somehow proves they’re more legit — flexing like they’ve got the biggest dk in the room, without ever actually showing it. Meanwhile, I slapped on a pair of split fins, got in the water, and holy sh*t — I was flying. Less effort, more speed, and zero fatigue.**
Moral of the story? Don’t trust divers who talk loud but dive shallow — try the gear yourself and form your own opinion. Most of these keyboard warriors wouldn’t last a dive outside their comfort zone.

I would like to add: please never stop producing split fins. If possible, continue to improve them, but above all, keep making them available. From now on, my mission is to respectfully show every diver I meet how mistaken they may be about these fins
